Our Baby and Toddler Classes
The Playgroup offers pre-school classes from birth to school age and beyond giving our customers range of baby and toddler activities to work through as your little ones grow.
We feel privileged to be a part of your early years journey, and the best bit is building relationships with our little ones, who join us as babies and leave us all ready for nursery or reception.
The playgroup recognise the importance of community and friendships therefore all of our sessions include 30 minutes of child focus class/activity and 30 minutes parent socialising with free play. Parents can access refreshments, relax and enjoy some time together.
Classes are categorised by age not development. This allows parents to decide which class is most suitable for their child. Parents are not under pressure to move up categories, they can make that choice when it feels right.
We have three class categories to choose from:
BIRTH - SITTING UP
BABY MASSAGE – a gentle introduction to baby classes. This is a 6 week course. It offers parents the chance to bond with baby in a relaxed setting and offers technical massage knowledge that can be used outside of the class. Each week will focus on a different body area until week 5 which includes a full body massage. Parents receive a certificate at the end of the course. This course doesn’t overstimulate baby, it has very few props, no songs or theme of the week. The focus is in the ‘touch’ sense, encouraging parent and baby to communicate and bond.
NEW WORLD EXPLORERS – a perfect first class for newborns. Babies can explore a range of senses in this class. We introduce yoga, nursery rhymes, social time, core exercises, swing songs, relaxation, massage, cuddles and bubbles. Each week you will be taken on a themed adventure with lots of photo opportunities. This class is available in BEGINNERS and ADVANCED.
SITTING UP - WALKING
MESSY EXPLORERS – as our babies become more curious, they thrive on experimenting with new textures, tastes, smells, colours and sounds. This is a tuff tray-based session that will offer a range of VEGAN resources to feel, move around and enjoy. The session is introduced with a theme song to set the scene, then little ones spend around 20 minutes fee playing between different trays. They get cleaned up and finish with a relaxing cool down song.
MUSIC EXPLORERS (NEW) – this session is for our music lovers, it will be a mix of action songs, hand and finger puppets, traditional nursery rhymes and of course musical instruments. There will be social time, fancy dress and a new theme each week.
TODDLERS AND PRE-SCHOOLERS
INDEPENDENT EXPLORERS – a session for children who do not like sitting still. There are a range of areas for little ones to explore. There are themed tuff trays with a similar mix of resources to messy play but with more tools to develop those fine motor skills and cause and effect motions. There will be an area for physical development and independent play with tunnels, ride along equipment, and open-ended building materials. The third area will be a weekly challenge or activity they can complete following simple instructions. Finally, there will be a group area for singing and dancing. The children explore independently for the first half of the session, there is a 10-minute break in the middle for little ones to have a snack and a drink then they finish with 20 minutes of music and singing.
NATURE EXPLORERS (coming 2024) – This session will include the key principles of forest school and will explore natural materials in an outdoor setting. Children will be taken on a themed adventure each week, including singing sessions by the camp fire, make crafts, explore water and mud play, and so much more.
